Municipality of Bač - Opština Bač

 

 

 

Bač is located in the southwestern part of the vast Pannonian plain in Vojvodina, in the southwest of Bačka, along a 43 km long bank of the Danube River (border with the Republic of Croatia). Municipality covers an area of 367 km² and includes 6 settlements (Bač, Bačko Novo Selo, Plavna, Vajska, Bođani and Selenča). The population of about 17,000 is extremely multiethnic (Serbs, Slovaks, Croats, Hungarians, Rumanians, Roma..), who live of farming and animal husbandry. During the Middle Ages, Bač was the most important town of the region, so much that a large Panonnian region (part in Serbia and part in Hungary) was called Bačka.

2010 the Republic of Serbia submitted a nomination of Historical place of Bač and its surroundings on the Tentative list of UNESCO to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage site.
